Communal Clash: Oyo Gov Visits Crisis Areas

Oyo State Governor, Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja yesterday undertook an emergency visit to Irawo area of the state where intra communal clash has claimed 10 lives.

Ladoja, however, undertook the visit in a dramatic hush-hush manner discarding his usual team of journalists who normally accompany him on such a tour.

The governor's visit which was described as a "private visit" by his personal aides was accompanied by top government officials including Secretary to the State Government and some state commissioners.

In the riot which erupted over the returned from exile of a banned monarch also led to 35 other people sustaining grave injuries.

Unconfirmed sources hinted THISDAY that a top government official has been indicted as one of those behind-the-scene sponsor of the fracas.

The official believed to have been appointed by the immediate past administration of Governor Lam Adesina was fingered as one of the financiers of the violence which sources said had political undertone.

As at 7 p.m. last night, the governor was still being awaited from the council area.

But indication emerged last night that he might set up a fact-finding panel to probe the incident.
